When you water a plant, it absorbs the water through its roots and then into its vascular system. The water then moves its way to the stems, leaves, buds, and fruit.<\/p>\n<p>If the water you are using to water your plants is contaminated, they will be dispersed throughout the entire plant. Meaning if you eat the fruits and veggies of your labor, you\u2019re ingesting these contaminants and they could make you very sick.<\/p>\n<p>Contaminated water can also cause plants to discolor, stunt their growth or even kill them! Yikes! Remember, the <strong>quality<\/strong> of the water you are using to water your garden is EXTREMELY important.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.filtersfast.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/rsz_istock-964395046.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20102 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.filtersfast.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/rsz_istock-964395046.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1061\" height=\"707\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.filtersfast.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/rsz_istock-964395046.jpg 1061w, https:\/\/blog.filtersfast.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/rsz_istock-964395046-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.filtersfast.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/rsz_istock-964395046-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.filtersfast.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/rsz_istock-964395046-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1061px) 100vw, 1061px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For most people, the easiest and quickest way to water your garden is through the water that is supplied to your home through the city also known as Municipal Water. This water is regularly tested and monitored. Curious to see how your water measures up? We found this informative website, check it out: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewg.org\/tapwater\/\">https:\/\/www.ewg.org\/tapwater\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, if your water comes from a well, pond or rain barrel, it could be contaminated. Why? Fertilizer runoff can seep into wells and ponds. This runoff can contain high nitrogen levels and can cause your plants to discolor. Pathogens and microorganisms that cause E. Coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Giardia, Listeria and Hepatitis A can also make their way into wells, ponds, and even rainwater. It\u2019s important to test your water at least once a year to ensure that it is safe to water your plants with. As far as rainwater in rain barrels go, even though it is earth-friendly, it can contain excrement from diseased birds and squirrels and heavy metals, like lead and zinc, if the water is being collected under your roof. Be careful if you choose to use a rain barrel.
