July 4th is right around the corner. While we are preparing for the grilling and all other festivities many of us have lined up, have we stopped to think what the 4th of July is about? Independence Day is the national holiday of the United States of America that commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. The signing of the declaration took place in Philadelphia by our founding fathers that set forth the path that this country would travel. The first Independence Day celebration took place July 4, 1777 a year after the Declaration was signed. By the early 1800s the tradition of parades, fireworks and picnics were established as the way to celebrate America’s birthday. For many of us, this day means celebrating freedom, the “American Spirit” and so much more that comes with this great country of ours.
