Spring is in the air, and so are all of the micro allergens that come with it. A household spring cleaning routine that involves a lot of sneezing, wheezing and watery eyes may be a sign that it’s time to replace not just your home’s air filter, but your vacuum cleaner filter, too. Filters Fast, a leading online retailer of air and water filters, now offers replacement vacuum bags, vacuum filters and vacuum belts compatible with several brands including Eureka, Bissell, Dirt Devil and Hoover.
Replacing the vacuum filter and bag improves suction power so the vacuum is better able to trap particles like dust mite debris, pollen, grass and pet dander, improving indoor air quality. The 3M Filtrete filter line produces replacement vacuum filters and vacuum bags made with the same micro allergen and HEPA filter media that the company also uses to make air filters.
Vacuum bags made with micro allergen filter media capture 94 percent of particles larger than one micron in size, such as dust mite debris, grass and ragweed pollen. They also capture 57 percent of particles between 0.3 and 1 micron including household fibers and other allergens. Filters Fast carries Bissell and Dirt Devil brand-compatible bags and filters as well as Hoover vacuum bags and Eureka vacuum bags and filters made with micro allergen media. They also offer compatible Electrolux, Kenmore and Panasonic vacuum bags. The vacuum bag should be replaced every one to two months.
3M Filtrete also makes bags and filters with an advanced HEPA vacuum filter media which helps trap 99.97 percent of all airborne pollutants which are 0.3 microns or larger in size. These include mold spores, pet dander, grass and ragweed pollen and other allergens. Filters Fast carries HEPA vacuum bags and filters compatible with Eureka, Dirt Devil and Hoover vacuum cleaners. The HEPA replacement filter should be changed every six months or sooner if there are children, pets or frequent allergies.
Vacuum cleaner belt replacement should be done every six months to ensure optimum performance. Filters Fast also carries 3M Filtrete replacement vacuum belts, compatible with several brands, including Eureka, Bissell, Dirt Devil and Hoover vacuum belts..

Sue,
As you can imagine, we have been getting a lot of questions about if vacuum bags can be used to make masks. We do not currently have enough information to make a recommendation as to the safety and efficacy of using vacuum bags to make masks.

Do Filtrete # 65703 vacuum bags (made for Dirt Devil) contain fiberglass.? I have an old box of 3 and would like to make a filter liner for homemade cloth face mask I have called 3M and they don’t make that product. They referred me to Electrolux who told me they don’t make the product.

Diamantina,
Thank you for your patience while we reached out to the vendor about your question. The vendor confirmed that there is no fiberglass and that the box contains 5 vacuum bags + 2 filters. The vendor also stated that the 2 are the same secondary filter. They are not HEPA.
As you can imagine we are getting a lot of questions about whether masks can be made with filters and vacuum bags. The vendor advises against using the bags and filters to make masks.
The vendor also let us know that this item is on back order and cannot provide an accurate ETA at this time. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks!

Do the Miele FJM Synth…uum Bags contain fiberglass? And do the filters (2 types) for the Miele vacuum cleaner included with the bags?
Katie says
Sierra,
Thank you for your patience while we reached out to the vendor about your question. The Vac Dirt Devil HEPA Media F1 Vacuum filters DO contain fiberglass and other chemicals which makes them not suitable for making masks.
Thanks!

Nancy,
Thank you for your patience while we reached out to the vendor about your question. The Hoover HEPA MEDIA Type A bags are made of porous woven material (the exact material information is not available). There is NO fiberglass used, but they do not recommend the bag be used for anything other than the vacuum.
We are happy to answer any other questions that you have. If you would like to receive a quicker response, please email us at [email protected].
Thank you!

Trying my question again, since I haven’t heard back from you. Would you please respond?
What are Hoover HEPA MEDIA Type A vacuum filter bags made of? Do they have fiberglass? Polyurethane? I don’t need a recommendation for use — I just want to know what they are made of. These are for an old Hoover vacuum cleaner I used to have — it was at least 10-15 years old.
Thank you.

Hi Katie,
Can you tell us if the filters contain fiberglass?
Thank you!

Carol,
Thank you for your question. As you can imagine, we have been getting a lot of questions about filters to be used in masks. We do not currently have enough information to make a recommendation as to the safety and efficacy of using vacuum bags or furnace filters to make masks. Please check back because we will update our recommendations if we get more information.

Is it safe to use filter material from your HEPA vacuum bags or from high efficiency furnace filters for face masks. I am asking specifically about safety of breathing through the material and not about efficacy in filtering viruses.
