There was a time when I drank water straight from the tap and didn’t think anything of it. Once I started realizing the issues that water supplies and tap water can present like harmful bacteria, high chlorine levels, bad taste, smell, etc. I jumped to buying bottled water. That didn’t last long, as it is very expensive. Once I found out that bottled water companies have fewer regulations than those governing tap water, it became a definite no-no for me. It wasn’t until after l I jumped from tap water, moved to bottled water, and stopped using bottled water that I finally arrived at the most cost-effective and healthiest option— water filters.
It took me a long time to arrive at this solution but it doesn’t have to take you as long.
Benefits of using water filters in your home
1. They provide better-tasting, better-smelling drinking water by reducing bacterial contaminants and chlorine. One of the biggest complaints about tap water is its taste and/or smell. Bottled water may seem like a better option, but when you factor in the cost and consider the fact that it is essentially the same as tap water, you will soon realize that this may be the biggest benefit of water filters.
2. Drinking filtered, clean water protects your body from diseases and can lead to better health. Proper hydration is so important to your overall health and well-being. That’s why it’s so important to make sure that your house water filtration system removes contaminants and contains healthy minerals. In addition, home water treatments provide pure water for cooking as well.
3. It saves you money. First off, let’s tackle bottled water. The cost of bottled water goes way beyond what you pay to buy it which itself adds up after only a little while. It also takes an estimated 17 million barrels of oil per year to make plastic bottles according to onegreenplanet.org. It takes even more energy to have it transported throughout the world. Take into account that 80% of bottled water ends up in landfills and you see the problem.
House water filters on the other hand, when you buy from FiltersFast.com, are affordable, can be delivered automatically to your door at the frequency of your choosing, and can even be recycled. When you think about it, it might be a little more expensive initially, but in the long run, it will save you money.
Not sure what’s in your water? Concerned there might be heavy metals or are you noticing mineral deposits on your water-using appliances? We recommend water testing before investing in a home water filtration system. You can test your water easily at home with a water test kit.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of benefits of water filters, but these are why I believe you should consider using water filtration in your home. Refrigerator filters, whole house filters, faucet filters, countertop filters, and more are all options that allow you to drink clean, filtered water in your house.

My family plans to spend the majority of the hot season at my brother’s vacation house and this means that we’ll constantly be using a lot of water for things like laundry and dishwashing. I wanted to know how to get a preemptive lead on setting up the vacation house for water efficiency and so it helped when you stated that water filters make tap water taste and smell better, thus making it much more usable for daily use. Since we’ll likely be making a lot of food and drinking a lot of water over the course of the vacation, it might be best for me to start searching for home water filters that I can get installed before everyone else settles in. Thank you!

I never knew that filtered water can protect the body from any possible diseases. Also, it’s great to know that this could also provide a better smelling and better-tasting water, which is exactly what I need. I just recently moved into my apartment, and I’m planning to have my water filtered because I’m quite worried about the bad effects of my unfiltered tap water.

Sabrina,
Thank you so much for reading our blog! We’re glad you learned something from it. I am sorry to hear that your mother is having issues with her water. I reached out to our Water Quality Expert to ask him if he could share some more information about smelly/sour water and here is what he said: “When it comes to water, smells are generally associated with gases. The most common culprits are hydrogen sulfide and manganese. The sour component usually relates to acids; this is water with a PH value less than 7. The points above are for general reference. I would recommend having the water tested; the more comprehensive the better. [The following link may be a good resource for troubleshooting smells when and where they’re found: https://mytapscore.com/blogs/tips-for-taps/stinky-water-your-odor-guide”
Please let us know if you have any other questions! We are happy to help!

I share in the way that you became aware of our water and the ‘business’ of the bottled water industry. My goodness I’ve Benn through the same. At 67 yrs I too remember drinking tap water as well as from a hose in the yard. filling pitchers and ice trays I making tea with faucet water..ah those were the days my friend!
The water in the town I currently live in is absolutely atrocious! The city sets aside a day or two every so many weeks to bleed the system & washing laundry is OUT! the water is dark brown & horrid & will STAIN your fabrics.
It’s very expensive to buy bottled water, especially for seniors on fixed incomes, but here in this town there was no choice and it did take me 4 years before deciding to try a filter system and I have just recently bought a Brita filter for my kitchen sink & a shower filter that adds Vitamin C and other filters of lemon..& rose, lavender and jasmine, for skin benefits as well.
I still just was NOT SURE if I could drink filtered. So I finally put some filtered Brita system water in my refrigerator to get it cold. It tastes’ fine! & also I can SEE how CLEAR it is. I did come online to see that it’s okay still to be drinking it, when I came across your site.
I really appreciate the time and effort you’ve gone to bring forward this information.
I’m so very glad that I can drink and cook with water from my tap again. about the ONLY water bottled I will pay for on occasions will be spring water at the source and FIGI water is fabulous. it’s very very soft on the pallet ..
I’ll surely follow up with the subject of air that you’ve presented too. Again THANK YOU for the research and data you’ve developed here for us to get quick and concise answers.

You make a great point that water filtration systems help you to drink pure water and this gives me peace of mind that my family will be as healthy as possible. The fact that a filter system will provide better smelling and tasting water by reducing bacteria and chlorine is a huge benefit because my family will be more likely to drink water throughout the day if it tastes better. Also, it will save us money because we won’t need to buy filtered water bottles.

My wife and I have recently moved to a new state. When we got here we realized that we really didn’t like the taste of the tap water. We decided we would buy water bottles. I didn’t realize that not only do water bottles cost more than a filter system, they require 17 million barrels of oil to produce the bottle itself. That makes a water system a great option for us.

I find it very difficult to figure out which replacement filters to order for my culligan RO system on your website. I need a chart that shows Culligan p/ns and the corresponding replacements.
