In 1621, the first Thanksgiving celebration took place in Plymouth Colony (present day Massachusetts). However, it would be more than 200 years later when President Abraham Lincoln designated the final Thursday in November as a national day of Thanksgiving. Congress would make Thanksgiving an official holiday in 1941. There are various Thanksgiving Day traditions that have evolved over the years. Some celebrate by attending a local Thanksgiving Day parade, some choose to crowd the TV and watch the annual football games, and of course, you can’t forget about the Thanksgiving feast as well. Turkey, cakes, various kinds of stuffing and more will be consumed.
No matter how great Thanksgiving traditions are however, it is important to remember what this holiday is all about. Thanksgiving is more than food, TV and parades. It is about being thankful. It is about showing gratitude for what you have in your life.
